Understanding Your Material Options
Not all flexible packaging films are the same. The right material structure depends on your product’s shelf-life requirements, filling speed, and shelf appeal. Here’s a quick breakdown of the most common rollstock types we manufacture:
Monolayer PE or multi-layer all-plastic structures like PA/PE, PET/PA/PE.
Lightweight, flexible, and fully recyclable in mono-material designs. Ideal for products that don’t require extreme barrier protection — think dry snacks, textiles, or hardware.
.
VMPET, VMCPP, and other vacuum-metallized structures.
A micron-thin layer of aluminum is vacuum-deposited onto the plastic film, significantly improving oxygen and moisture barrier at a lower cost than foil. A popular choice for coffee, chips, and confectionery where shelf appeal and moderate barrier are needed.
7μm or 9μm aluminum foil as the middle barrier layer.
The gold standard for product protection. Foil provides 100% light, oxygen, and aroma barrier — keeping coffee fresh, protein powders stable, and oatmeal crisp for extended periods. If your product is sensitive to moisture or oxidation, this is your structure
Kraft paper combined with plastic films or foil.
The natural, earthy look of paper with the barrier performance of plastic or foil. Perfect for premium snacks, organic tea, or gift packaging where branding and sustainability perception matter.

Material Selection Guide for Packaging Film Roll – 7 Substrates, Endless Combinations
Different products demand different film structures. Below are the seven base materials we regularly work with — each selected for specific barrier, seal, or print performance. We combine them in 2-, 3-, or 4-layer laminations to match your product’s exact shelf-life and filling requirements.
| Material | Typical Layer | Key Property | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| BOPP | Top (Print) | High gloss, clarity, stiffness | Snack foods, confectionery, cookies |
| PET | Top (Print) | Heat resistance, high strength | Liquid pouches, pet food, heavy-duty bags |
| BOPA (Nylon) | Top or Middle | Puncture resistance, oxygen barrier | Frozen food, vacuum pouches, bone-in meat |
| AL (Aluminum Foil) | Middle | 100% light/oxygen/moisture barrier | Coffee, protein powder, spices, pharmaceuticals |
| VMPET | Middle | Cost-effective barrier, metallic sheen | Chips, candy, stand-up pouches with window |
| CPP | Inner (Sealant) | Heat-sealable, soft, good clarity | General food packaging, laminates with foil |
| VMCPP | Inner (Sealant) | Heat-sealable + moderate barrier | Confectionery, baked goods, snacks |
| PE | Inner (Sealant) | Strong seal, flexible, cost-effective | Liquid bags, heavy-duty packaging, recyclable structures |
From Roll to Reality – Three Steps That Define Reliability
At Wanhao, we’ve learned one thing from 15 years of supplying VFFS and HFFS lines: the difference between a good day and a bad day on your packaging floor often comes down to what’s inside the roll. So we don’t just print, laminate, and slit. We question every parameter – ink viscosity, nip pressure, slitter knife angle – until the roll behaves exactly as your machine expects it to.

01 – Color That Holds Its Nerve at High Speed
Your VFFS line doesn’t slow down for a color shift. Our gravure presses run with closed‑loop registration that corrects every 0.2mm of drift before you even see it. That means your brand red stays red – not orange, not brown – all the way from the first bag to the 500,000th. And because we use FDA‑listed inks, that color is also safe enough to wrap your customer’s food.

02 – Bonding That Doesn’t Blister Under Pressure
One trapped bubble in the adhesive layer can turn your oxygen barrier into a sieve. That’s why we use solvent‑free lamination – not just for the environment, but because it forms a denser, more uniform bond. Whether it’s PET/AL/PE for coffee or BOPP/VMPET/PE for snacks, our peel strength varies less than 5% from batch to batch.

03 – Slitting With a Temper, Not Just a Blade
Most roll problems – telescoping, wrinkling, hard spots – are born at the slitter, but they don’t show up until your line is running. We set winding hardness per order, based on your machine’s unwind tension and core diameter. Width tolerance is held to ±0.5mm, and every finished roll goes through a 5‑point QC check (visual, thickness, seal strength, surface energy, and splice detection). The result? Smoother startups, fewer splices, and up to 40% less downtime when you change rolls.
Frequently Asked Questions – Quick Answers for Your Rollstock Orders
To start a custom order, just send us five things: your desired width and repeat size, the material structure and thickness you need (or tell us your product and we will recommend one), your artwork in PDF/AI/PSD format, your roll unwind direction, and your target quantity. We will get back to you within 24 hours with a recommendation.
We offer glossy, matte, spot UV, hot stamping, and scoring. Glossy makes colors pop for retail shelves. Matte gives a premium soft-touch feel, popular for coffee and cosmetics. Spot UV highlights logos or specific design elements. Hot stamping adds metallic foil accents like gold or silver. Scoring creates easy-tear or fold lines for consumer convenience. Not sure which one fits your product? Ask us for a sample pack and see them in person.
Our standard MOQ for full custom production is 300KG per structure. For first-time buyers, we offer sample rolls from 10KG for testing, and small-batch trial runs from 100KG for simple structures. If you have a specific quantity in mind that is lower than these numbers, just tell us your situation and we will see what we can work out.
Standard production takes 15 working days after deposit payment and artwork approval. Artwork proofing takes about 2 to 3 days, cylinder engraving 3 to 5 days, and mass production 10 to 15 days depending on order size. If you need it faster, rush orders are possible for repeat structures or in-stock materials, just contact us to check availability.
